Individuals and Families

Caring for creation begins at home. You may live in an apartment or a suburban home, alone or in a family. Whatever your circumstances, your daily actions and choices have an impact on the environment -- and therefore on the lives of other people and creatures. Some of those impacts may be harmful -- but there are alternatives. From simple beginning steps to more substantial changes in lifestyle, you can find ways to put your faith and values into action every day.

Each of us has a sphere of influence. It may be large, or it may be small -- but what matters is not so much the scope, but the quality of that influence.

In Your Home and Daily Life
  • Make your home a safer, healthier environment by following the advice of Healthy Families, Healthy Environment, a project of the Evangelical Environmental Network.
  • Conserve energy in your home and daily life by following the advice of the Interfaith Climate Change Network, a project of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life and the National Council of Churches of Christ.
  • Make responsible personal transportation choices along the lines suggested by the "What Would Jesus Drive?" website (a campaign of the EEN).
  • Provide a safe and supportive habitat for God’s creatures in your own yard with the National Wildlife Federation’s Backyard Habitat Program.
  • Consider additional ideas about what you can do to help the environment.
